NimbleX Editor's Review
NimbleX is small but extremely well developed operating system. Based on Slackware and live scripts, this tiny OS has the enormous advantage of the fact that it can be carried around on USB Flash memory sticks or other USB portable media devices, CDs (even small 8 cm CDs).There are two packages available for download: the 69 Mb package comes without the multimedia and GTK support, but don't worry: in case you need to extend your NimbleX, there are lots of programs available for download on www.nimblex.net or on www.sourceforge.net.
The standard package includes lots of useful applications, from word processor to basic server functions. Among them, I'd like to mention 'Konqueror', the file manager, web browser and universal document viewer, 'Akregator' - RSS feed reader, 'Kasablanca' - FTP client, NimbleX HTTP, FTP and PXE servers, MPlayer and KPlayer - multimedia players, and so on. Whether you need some office tools, Internet tools, system utilities, CD/DVD burner, you name it, it's all there. And the nice thing is that you don't even need to install this operating system.
You can also access a local area network and share files, as well as browse through shared resources. Accessibility options are included as well as the possibility to apply regional settings for your country and security features.
Besides the fact that it's completely customizable, in case you run NimbleX from an USB memory stick you can save your settings, something impossible when working with a liveCD.
Pluses: It's a small, compact, fully customizable operating system. It can be expanded in order to completely suite your needs. Support for Bluetooth devices.
Drawbacks / flaws: I could only set the screen resolution to 1024x768 when running NimbleX. In case you install Mozilla, the Adobe Flash plugins won't be installed.
In conclusion: Despite its flaws (which are quite normal and I'm sure they'll be suppressed), I believe this is a hell of a good Linux distribution. You should see for yourself.
